BEGINNING OF RADIO AND TELEVISION SHOWS IN INDIA

The beginning of radio and television shows in India marks significant milestones in the country's media and entertainment history.

Radio Shows in India: The history of radio broadcasting in India dates back to the early 1920s when the British colonial government introduced radio services. The first experimental broadcast took place in Bombay (now Mumbai) in 1923.

In 1930, the Indian Broadcasting Company (IBC) was established, and it later became All India Radio (AIR) in 1936.

AIR played a crucial role in disseminating information and entertainment during the pre-independence and post-independence eras.

Iconic radio shows like "Binaca Geetmala," "Vividh Bharati," and "Yuvavani" became immensely popular and contributed to the cultural fabric of the nation.

Television Shows in India: Television broadcasting in India commenced on September 15, 1959, with the launch of Doordarshan (DD), the state-owned television network. The first telecast included a speech by the then President of India, Dr. Rajendra Prasad.

The first television program to air was a dance performance by the legendary Kathak dancer, Gopi Krishna. Television sets were a luxury at the time, and gatherings in front of television sets were common.

Over the years, Doordarshan produced and aired iconic shows such as "Ramayana" and "Mahabharata," which garnered massive viewership, shaping the cultural and social landscape of the country.

The 1982 Asian Games in Delhi marked a turning point, as it was the first time India hosted a major sporting event, and the coverage on Doordarshan brought television into many households.

The introduction of radio and television shows in India played pivotal roles in communication, entertainment, and cultural dissemination. These mediums have evolved significantly since their inception and continue to be influential in shaping India's media landscape.
