Data collection begins after a research
problem has been defined and the research design / plan is chalked out.
There are two main types of data
1. Primary data
2. Secondary data
Primary data
Primary data are those which are
collected afresh and for the first time, and thus happen to be original in
character.
Secondary data
Secondary data are those which have
already been collected by someone else and which have already been through the statistical process.
The researcher has to decide which sort
of data he/she would be using for his/her study.
Primary data collection methods include
observation, interview, questionnaire, schedules etc.
Secondary data is available in the form
of books, magazines, newspapers, reports and publications of various scholars,
associations, universities, public records, historical documents.
