The term ‘ecology’ is derived from two Greek words ‘Oikos’
meaning ‘home’ and ‘logos’ meaning ‘study’. Thus the term ecology means the study
of ‘living systems at home’ / the study of all living systems in relation to their
respective environment.
Ecology is a sub-discipline of biology (the study of
life)
Definition – Ecology is the scientific study of the interactions
that determine the distribution and abundance of organisms.
